My Students
I teach United States History to 8th graders. My students are artistically, talented and motivated individuals who love incorporating art, music, and poetry into history lessons.
We work collaboratively to explore historical documents and their implications on ancient and modern societies.
Through continuous research and analysis students discuss how current laws and policies are effects of early legal decisions as well as take ownership of their roles as citizens and residents of the United States. Students use history to create action plans, which provides ways they can currently get involved in their community.
My Project
My students read many historical documents. Through research students discover how the law impacts society. In addition, student explain societal concerns led to changes in the law.
Binders help students keep track of the documents, while highlighters help them identify key ideas from documents.
These supplies are essential to ensuring students success in reading and comprehending complex historical documents. For example, students may complete a project analyzing the civil rights of women in the United States of America. To complete this project students will read and analyze primary and secondary sources from the 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries. Students must read all documents because each document provides the student with a piece of the story.
Students must keep track of multiple documents. As a result, a binder is needed to organize their work.
