When people find out that I teach at a middle school, I always get the same reaction. Something along the lines of "Wow, you have to be a special kind of person to teach middle schoolers," and "Yikes, I wouldn't want that job." Yes, middle school is a very awkward stage of growing up. We all experienced it...the growth spurts, the crushes, the drama!
Middle school is a time of change; it is the perfect time for kids to start figuring out who they are and what they are interested in.
There is so much to cover in an English Language classroom: grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence structure, predicting and inferring, central ideas, textual evidence, narrative, expository, and argumentative writing just to name a few. Because my sixth graders are excited to learn, we accomplish amazing things. Their love for learning is just one of the reasons I teach middle schoolers, zits and all!
My Project
The binders and file folders that I am requesting for my students will help my students enhance their responsibility and organizational skills. I would love for each of my students to have their own personalized Student Center where they can keep essential class papers safe.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student organization and responsibility, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
As soon as students walk through my classroom doors, they will see our Student Center, a space that is theirs. The Student Center consists of a bookshelf full of student binders and a table to hold class bins with individual folders for each student. The donation of binders will give each student a safe spot to keep all notes we take throughout the year. In our classroom, we constantly revisit skills and strategies throughout the year.
Just like the binders, each student will have a designated folder. This is where they will store their tests , papers, and projects. The folders will show student growth. At the end of the year, students will be able to see how they advanced from their very first paper to their last. These binders and folders will stay in Student Center for the entire school year, ensuring that the important notes and handouts don't disappear.
