My students need supplies to make their very own binary code lanyards for Computer Science class. This will be a great way to introduce binary coding to my 7th grade students.
My students live in a socioeconomic diverse community and come from varying ethnic backgrounds. They are faced with many challenges at home and at school. I want to make learning fun with stimulating, engaging lessons that will be pivotal to a student’s academic success.
My classes will be introduced to binary coding.
My Project
This will be a great way to introduce binary coding to 7th grade Computer Science classes. Our school has over 80% on free and reduced lunch. Providing them with a fun way to learn binary code and make a lanyard they can use will benefit them greatly!
These requested materials are required to make colorful binary code lanyards using various bead color combinations that will represent letters in the binary alphabet.
Each color bead will represent 1 or 0 in the binary alphabet code. One color will represent 1 and another color will represent 0. The third color will be used as a spacer between the letters.
We will dive into how computers use binary code for letters and numbers. We will start with capital letters, then move on to lower case letters and numbers. They will also learn how to create their own messages using binary.
The learning goal for this activity is to provide them with a deeper understanding of how binary coding works and the way computers understand letters and numbers.
