Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are in second grade at a bilingual school. For half of them, this is their first time learning in Spanish...and they are fully immersed starting in September. Some students are native English speakers, and some are native Spanish speakers. Every other week they have class in either English or Spanish. They are eager to learn and excited to be in school!
My students deserve the best materials so that they can achieve their potential in school.

My Project
Students at my school learn in both English and Spanish. Second grade is a huge transition year, when the students start spending one week in Spanish class and one week in English class.
This rug will not only make our classroom more comfortable and inviting, but will serve as a bridge between the two languages.
With the combination of visuals and vocabulary in English and Spanish, students will become more familiar with colors, numbers, and frequently used materials in our second grade classroom. Additionally, the size of this rug will ensure that all students have a place to sit during our whole-class rug time.
