Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This year, I am teaching thirty-five first graders. My students are in a dual language program. I have a diverse group of children with different reading proficiency levels in English and Spanish. They are curious, ambitious, and excited to learn! As a teacher, I want to provide them the resources they need to be successful.
My students are in the process of learning how to read, write, listen, and speak in a second language.
They work in collaborative groups to help one another meet grade level expectations in both languages.
My Project
My students will benefit from having these Spanish books available in our classroom. It is crucial to have reading materials for them to learn reading strategies and to become critical thinkers. They are in the process of learning to read, write, speak, and listen in their native language and a second language. These books will be a resource for them to speak in front of their peers and listen to others have meaningful conversations.
These books will increase my students reading fluency comprehension in Spanish!
My students will be able to make text-to-self connections with the characters in the stories. This will help promote deeper thinking!
