Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are dual language students! They are all learning a second language through our program. About half are learning English. Many of these students are 1st to 3rd generation Americans. The other half of my students are learning Spanish. I have a GT (gifted and talented) cluster along with some students with special needs. We are a Title 1 school meaning a large concentration of my students are low-income students. They are all amazing with their own unique needs!
My Project
Many of my students are tactile learners! The Spanish letters will help them with spelling, vocabulary, and writing in Spanish. My students love practicing new words and proving their knowledge by writing on sticky notes! I read to my students every day. Sadly, my Hispanic students see themselves in literature less than my Anglo students. These books will be special to read aloud for them! I have a dividing wall instead of a real wall for one wall in my classroom. Many students ask for noise-canceling headphones when we test to block out next door's noise.
