My 19 students are from Pittsburgh Public and are a part of a pre-k counts program. This program increases access to quality pre-kindergarten education to children and families throughout the commonwealth with a priority in at-risk communities.
My students are thinkers, doers, artists, performers, scientists, architects, movers, mathematicians, and explorers.
Most of all, we are a part of a classroom community that loves, respects, and believes in one another.

My Project
A tandem trike will help give my students the ability to work on different gross motors skills during our gym time. Some of our students don't have the opportunity to ride a bike elsewhere, or practice their pedaling skills. We have many children that come to us, that have never ridden a bike before. They can't even make the bike go forward!
Having an extra bike will give the students an opportunity to practice these gross motor skills.
Gross motor skills are important to young children because they help a child gain strength and confidence in his/her body as well as provide exercise opportunities which are important for a healthy lifestyle.
The gross motor space is a shared space, so the bike will also be used by the early intervention pre-kindergarten classroom!
