Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The middle school in our small community is full of amazing students. Our kids are full of energy and excitement are learning to find their way in the world as the negotiate the challenges of Middle School and learn the skills to be successful in High School and beyond.
Our students have big dreams for their future in terms of College or Careers and are preparing now for future success.
About 80% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch, and many understand the learning they do now prepares them to have the choice to do and become what they want in the future.
My Project
We have one "Wirk Bike" desk in our classroom and students can't get enough of it. They love to pedal while working and say it helps them focus, learn better, behave, and have fun. Students will even come in from other classes to pedal for a bit if they are having trouble in class. Only problem is, there is just one biking desk and lots of students. More kids want to use it than have opportunity. Plus we work in partners and groups and that one bike is all by it self. We would like to have more students get to use the bike and work collaboratively while using it. Research shows students learn better when the exercise. Many of our students say the can relax, behave and focus better if they are moving. Help provide this opportunity for more students.
