Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students come from many backgrounds and have diverse personalities. Our students range from ninth grade to twelfth grade and excel at many subjects. They are funny, creative, and competitive. Many focus on the extracurricular activities but also their grades and their families too.
Many of my students come from households with both parents working numerous jobs.
Our school has over 75% free or reduced lunch and breakfast. With this though students strive to better themselves both academically and as individuals. Through their interactions with others at school and their studies they are gaining the background knowledge and new concepts to be productive members of society. Maintaining their buy-in and interest in school is vital to ensure their success in making good choices for themselves and their future.
My Project
Physical education is not a privilege, it is a right for all students. Due to lack of funding and often lack of planning, many students with limited physical, mental, and emotional capabilities are left out of the conversation and planning.
The addition of adult tricycles to the adaptive Physical Education classes will allow students the opportunity to increase participation levels in fun and exciting ways while also improving motor coordination and muscular strength.
Students will be paired with non-disabled peers and behavior technicians to increase participation, and improve motor skill development with the use of tricycles throughout the building in a safe in cooperative environment. Further, they will feel more part of the school and demonstrate their learning in the least restrictive manner.
