My students need violins and violas in larger sizes to fit older students who wish to continue playing the instruments they started on in third grade but have outgrown them and need a bigger size.
Students in elementary strings classes are getting their first chance to learn how to play an instrument. Students are very excited to learn how to make music!
Unfortunately, many students at my school cannot afford to rent an instrument, so they can only participate by using an instrument from the school.
Every year, the school gets more instrument requests than we have instruments. Getting more instruments will allow more students to experience the joys of making music and participating in the orchestra program.
My Project
These larger size violins and violas will be perfect for my fifth grade students. These students have experience playing in the orchestra in third and fourth grade, but have grown and need instruments in a larger size to allow them to play with proper posture. The larger instruments also come with a better, louder sound allowing these students to be really expressive in their playing as they work on more complex music. Just like beginning students, these fifth graders will be working on music in a variety of styles from classical, to pop, to folk music and performing in at least two concerts each year. Students also have the opportunity to perform with other fifth graders, middle school, and high schoolers at events such as the Halloween Spooktakular and the GB Gala.
