For the past five years, I have helped guide a group of middle school student in school-wide technology service. We have been a classroom resource and liaison between teachers and students (digital native and non-digital natives), maintained and serviced machines and technology equipment throughout the school, provided a weekly news broadcast for the building, led teacher professional development sessions, hosted community technology classes, and even promoted the program at the Missouri School Board Association Conference. The eLeaders program has had a great cultural influence on not only the community of South Middle School, but it has also expanded outside of our doors to impact a wider community both physically and digitally.
My students are service-minded leaders, and innovators.
We work weekly to help address school technology needs in and out of the classroom through technology savvy student-leaders, and we also provide a weekly newscast, acquiring communication, videography, and video/photo-editing skills. The eLeaders continually impress me from week to week with their willingness to learn new things, respond to feedback, and serve our school community.
My Project
We will be able to enhance our weekly newscast with action shots of school activities and events like never before. Through lighting, backdrops and versatile cameras, middle schoolers will be able to participate in professional photography and videography.
The eLeaders of our school will be taken to new heights with the drone camera and new depths with the GoPro HERO6.
These new pieces of equipment will also give the students opportunities to learn and grow from new pre and post-production challenges. As we seek to better serve our school and community, we want to be as cutting-edge and innovative as possible!
