My students come from a variety of cultures, some are immigrants from Cameroon, Ghana, and countries in Central America. I have five students with learning disabilities and four who are not fluent in English yet. We are an extended day school, so they begin their work at 7:30 am and go home at 3:30 pm.
As a group they live in a proud working class community with wonderful parents trying to do the best they possibly can for their children.
They come to school daily with an eagerness to learn!
I am fortunate to have a full time assistant teacher. We often divide our students into small groups to provide instruction. In order to assist our students moving from place to place in the classroom, the book bags will help eliminate forgotten materials and long transition times. The easel will allow our students to have visual displays during all of their small group work. My assistant and I will be able to provide multiple modes of instruction for our students. Flexable grouping will be much needed differential and increase student participation in their learning. We have many students with special education and behavioral needs. Being able to provide more small group instruction will increase their ability to attend and retain information.
