My students are happy, excited kids who love to learn and LOVE to read. Reading is a big part of our 5th grade classroom. From reading class novels together to striving to meet the 40 book genre challenge. My kids are extremely motivated by books and would honestly read all day if I let them.
My goal, as their teacher, is to provide a culture of safety and acceptance by reading books in which students' see themselves, as well as encourage their sense of compassion for others' thoughts and feeling by reading them a diverse multitude of text.
Donations to this project will allow students to enjoy, form an opinion about, appreciate, and respond critically to a wide variety of books. These books will continue to create shared reading experiences and discussions for many years to come!
My Project
Picture books are an amazing way to connect with students. Often times these books can be a way to bring attention to difficult topics and perspectives that so many don't hear or see.
My students need good, quality, picture books that include a range of races, genders, and cultures.
It is important that they hear stories from kids that look like themselves and don't look like themselves. These picture books will be used throughout the school year, especially for #classroombookaday, where we read a picture book every day. With this time and these books, my students will have to the opportunity to experience and grow as readers together.
