I am back in Special Education this year - after working with general education 1st graders last year. My students with special needs have a greater chance of success with a more flexible classroom. One of the biggest things I've learned is that proper seating is the key to learning. Allowing students the freedom to move their bodies the way they see fit while emphasizing proper body alignment can help most students succeed. I would like to create an environment of flexible seating to allow all students to choose the type of seat that fits them best for the day.
Our school is a Title I school so funds for extras are hard to come by.
Most of our students receive free breakfast and lunch, and a majority are eligible for after-school care and dinner as well.
I also am starting out with very little in terms of "stuff" to help creating a welcoming environment for my classroom. I have received 2 donorschoose projects, in order to get some "stuff" for my classroom. This project is to gain larger flexible seating options for my intermediate students.
My 23 students in RSP, most are in the intermediate grades could benefit from having flexible seating options that are their size. This would include two larger yoga balls, a flex-space bundle with seating for the floor and two lap desks. This project is to help have options for all of the students that I work with.
Many of these students have a hard time learning and with seating options that allow them to move, they will have a greater chance for learning.
I would like to be able to offer my students with a variety of seating options to allow them the most success. This projected will help all 23 of my special education students.
