My Students
This class consists of six severe to moderate mentally disabled students. These students range in the age from 15-19 years old and they represent multicultural and diverse backgrounds. Though the primary handicapping condition of these students is mental disability or multiple disabilities, all of these students have secondary handicapping conditions such as vision, Cerebral Palsy and seizure disorders. They all have fine motor and sensory problems. These students require some or total care for self-help. All of these students are offered an opportunity to learn under the South Carolina Curriculum Standards (Extensions and Adaptations). Individualized Education Goals are written to reflect selected standards.
My Project
A large screened iPad will be used throughout the day to allow my students to participate in group activities along with the Promethean board. Also my students will use it to communicate their wants and needs, make requests, and do leisure activities. The enlarged screen allows my students with fine motor difficulties or visual impairments to find an easier way to access technology. The device makes it easy to use in different locations around the school and the community. The iPad opens many doors for my students' learning needs! It gives a hands-on learning approach to their curriculum. What a great way to learn!
