Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 9th & 10th grade artists at Kingsbridge International High School in the Bronx are ready to get going on all sorts of art projects. However, due to lack of supplies and resources, we are limited in terms of what projects we can complete. Most of all, my after school art club is hoping to beautify our school by painting murals and school pride slogans on the walls. Students have already planned out many ideas for murals including creative school logos, but we have no paint to get started. Students have been great at collecting materials from home for collage and sculpture but we need glue and scissors and other simple materials to get started with many activities.
The supplies that I am requesting will lead to the successful completion of endless projects during and after school. Students would have access to exploring different media such as pastels, watercolor, and assemblage. We would be able to do more in-depth studies of color, composition, and art history. More than 70 students will benefit from these supplies this school year.
As a Science & Art teacher at Kingsbridge International High School, I work with a population of students who have just arrived to the country. Most of my students are just learning English and I find that by integrating art into various subjects, students get a better idea of vocabulary and complex concepts. For this reason, my after school art club is very popular for both 9th and 10th graders.
I have been working hard to collect as many supplies as I can from friends, family, and the community but we still have few materials with which to conduct our club.
With the new materials requested, my students would be able to claim our school and make it our own. As a new school in its second year, our hallways could use some cheer and artistic creativity. Students would not only paint murals friendly to international students, but they could also share other art projects, made possible by you! We want to make a difference, if you can help us accomplish that, we would be extremely grateful!
