My students need books about feelings and stuffed animals to hold when they are feeling sad, mad, or upset. I have chosen books that will help my students identify their emotions and learn coping strategies.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have a wonderful and diverse first-grade class. I have students with IEP's, English Language Learners, gifted students and everything in between. Each of my students enjoys coming to school and during a daily transition activity they often tell me that school is their "happy place." I teach at a Title 1 school where all students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. 99.1% of our students come from low-income households. My students are a huge part of my heart and I strive to make a difference in their lives. We are a family in our classroom and I am on a mission to help each student a become lifelong learners.
My Project
I have diverse students who are at different levels academically but they all have one thing in common, feelings! Many of my students come to me with a difficult background or struggles that they are dealing with.
It is my goal to help my students identify their emotions and find coin strategies so that they can be ready to learn.
I handpicked these books because I know that they each have a powerful message and the ability to increase my students mood and positivity. I also chose stuffed animals because I have a cozy spot in my classroom where students can go to cool down. They often choose a stuffed animal to squeeze or hold. This helps them deal with transitions and difficult days.
I would love to read them the Worry Woo collection because I have seen that collection help students deal with differences, insecurity, worrying, anger, and frustration. I know that my kids will benefit from these books. This would give me and my students a larger library to read from.
