Kindergarten has such an amazing range of little learners. Children come into kindergarten at various levels. Children enter kindergarten from home, daycare or preschool experiences. Some children come into kindergarten knowing letters and numbers while others are being introduced to them for the first time. My classroom ranges from children who are learning letters and numbers for the first time to children solidifying their knowledge of letters and numbers and beginning to read and understand mathematics.
All children need engaging activities to continue their growth in learning.
These children are energetic, 5-6 year olds that love learning. They need a variety of hands-on experiences with letters to help them build a great foundation for reading and future learning.
This project will provide little learners with a literacy and math center station. With the 16 tray mobile organizer the little learners will have easy access to choice in their learning. Having choice in learning is very important to the engagement and ownership in learning. Having easy access with drawers for each activity will allow students to quickly find the game or activity and also easily clean up when finished. Not only will the learning station help their academic learning by playing the learning game or activity in each drawer, they will build organizational skills as well. This center station will contain 16 hands-on literacy activities and 16 hands-on math activities at different levels of learning to meet each child's individual needs.
Students will be able to independently choose a literacy or math activity that best fits their stage of development based.
This project will be ongoing for the school year and for many school years afterward. This project will impact many young learners in our school as they enter kindergarten.
