Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Horace Mann once said, "A house without books is like a room without windows." These big books will light up our lives.

Our charter school is located in the inner-city area of a large metroplex.

Most of our students come from economically disadvantaged homes and the majority receive free lunch. Attending our school is a very positive experience for them, but sometimes we are at a disadvantage because of lack of resources and funding. The staff of our school is very dedicated, and we use what we have wisely.

My Project

My students are very eager to learn to read, and these big books help them follow along with each story as I read. This increases their sight word knowledge and their vocabulary. I chose an assortment of topics of big books so that many subject areas will be covered. My students will be so excited to get new big books for our classroom!

Teaching at a charter school means we receive less funding than other public schools.

With reduced budgets and impending cuts, these items will bring opportunities to my students that they may not otherwise receive. Thank you for helping our classroom!
