Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach second grade at a charter school in the MacArthur Park area of Los Angeles. My students are amazing, and I am very committed to and passionate about providing them with the equivalent learning resources that their private school counterparts take for granted. Helping my students grow a lifelong love for reading is one of the most important goals I have as a teacher, and the resources I am requesting will be a tremendous aid in meeting that goal. One of the vital components in my reading curriculum is shared reading. Shared reading is an experience in which students are actively involved in reading a text big enough for everyone to see. Big books are the perfect tools for conducting shared reading. I am requesting a set of six books to use in my classroom. I have selected a Big Book pack that includes titles that children love, and are also conducive to building reading skills. By experiencing the joy of reading in a shared environment, children can learn together the decoding, fluency, and enthusiasm needed to be the best readers they can be. The big books in the pack I am requesting include the following classic titles: Tikki Tikki Tembo If You Give A Mouse A Cookie Caps For Sale Mean Soup What I Like About Me! Thank you in advance for your generous donation! You can be sure that these books will be thoughtfully and meaningfully integrated into my teaching for years to come.
