My students need 8 big books to enhance their reading and writing skills.
Thank you for reviewing my proposal. I teach first grade students in a low socio-economic neighborhood. My students' families struggle to provide supplies (such as notebooks, pencils, glue, etc...).
Every year there is a major emphasis on reading and writing workshop. I usually teach reading and writing skills by using big books so students can see the text as I am reading it. I use big books during shared reading on a daily basis.
Big books have also helped my students succeed on standardized assessments such as ECLAS and WRAP. They learn the high frequency words they need to know by using big books in the classroom.
Last year it was a struggle to get books from our school library, especially big books. I had to use many small independent reading books during shared reading or create poems on chart paper.
In the spring, we study non-fiction books. Unfortunately, I do not have any non-fiction big books to teach with. These big books would be used especially during this time and throughout the school year.
Please consider donating big books to my first grade classroom. I greatly appreciate your time and my students will definitely appreciate the support.
DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
