Big Books Create Big Readers
My students need the Mrs. Wishy Washy big book.
"Oh Lovely Mud" is the repetitive text in the book Mrs. Wishy Washy. As children hear repetitive text they become familiar with it and repeat it with love and enjoyment. Children need to have positive experiences with books to become readers.
I am an early childhood teacher in an Oklahoma A+ school that values teaching to the multiple intelligences.
The early years are important to children's literacy development. The children in my classroom and school come from a variety of backgrounds. Some have exposure to books at home while others do not.
Big books engage children through their enlarged pictures and repetitive text. The rhyme and repetition in Mrs. Wishy Washy inspires children to want to read the book again and again. Whether they are the youngest learn and reading the text by memory or a reading the text by sight, it engages them as they develop confidence and motivation as an early literacy learner.
Big books make a difference in children's literacy development.
Mrs. Wishy Washy is a favorite of children and is going out of print. Will you inspire these children as literacy learners this year?
