Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A day in my class is full of laughter, excitement, noisy busyness, and sometimes tears. My challenge is to motivate my students and teach them the skills they will need to be successful in kindergarten. My favorite quote is: "Nothing may be achieved except little by little." by Charles Baudelaire
The majority of my students are English Language Learners.
My school has been serving the community since the 1930's. It is a smaller older building with the original hardwood floors in many of the rooms. We have two classes per grade level and go up to 6th grade. Our parents often do not speak English. All communications go home in Spanish and English. Our students are bright, loving, and full of energy. Our school strives to create a learning environment for these children that will lead them to a successful future in whatever they choose in life.
My Project
My students need a Heavy-Duty Magnetic Write & Wipe Big Book Center to store and access our big books. The large book storage item that I am requesting will be used daily to reinforce many literacy skills. The learner will learn and review many concepts of print that will help them to become great readers. The large print helps them to track left to right as the teacher is reading and pointing to words. They will also learn punctuation, and sight word recognition. In addition the large pictures will help them use reader clues to figure out vocabulary and comprehension. As most are ELL students the pictures are vital for vocabulary. The white dry erase board will be helpful in showing print concepts and teacher word order and a variety of print concepts.
Donation to this project will improve my classroom by making access to our big books easy and fast.
At the moment many of our big books are stored in the school library or on top of a large shelve in back of the room. It will help my students as they will be able to get a book by themselves and work on reading skills. It will help my students as they will be able to see and read along with me much easier as the book is now on a stand. I will be able to observe student interaction easier!
