This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

1st Graders Love Reading Big Books!!!!!! I teach first grade at a low income school in California. In addition to being a low income school, we also service a lot of English Language Learners. The children in my class love to learn and soak up new knowledge like a sponge, when exposed to it. They all have a goal of becoming better readers.

The children enjoy engaging in learning through big book reading. It gives them an opportunity to have stories read to them, which increases their reading comprehension skills and gives them a reading model to emulate. It also gives them a chance to engage in reading themselves, but in a new and more exciting way. The big books are even a part of our district curriculum. The problem is, the big books are heavy, and the pages are difficult to turn without something to set them on.

What is the solution to this problem? A big book easel of course!!!!! With a big book easel the children and I will have a place to set the big books. The big book easel will allow us to turn the pages of each book with ease. In addition, the white board above the big book easel will be helpful during reading group instruction time.
