My students need a new set of equipment, which includes practice and game balls for next school year. The speed chutes will help us to compete with more experienced teams and get better conditioned.
This is my second year teaching at BHS and I'm proud to be a part of this community. BHS is a diverse, welcoming South Georgia academic community that strives to meet the needs of our students, in and outside of the classroom. Without extracurricular activities, such as sports like rugby, schools would lack the physical and emotional balance necessary to equip our students for life. Our boys and girls rugby team is a club team, so without the support of our parents and the community, we can't play.
Rugby provides our students with unique opportunities to challenge themselves, grow and bond as a team, and gain self-esteem, allowing our students to develop both mental, social, and physical character.
Over the course of the last season, I've seen incredible maturation among our players and having played the sport, I'm not surprised. I'm doing this project, because I believe our players deserve adequate gear, which they can use to develop as players, students, and people. By donating to this cause, you're not only helping our students play, you're helping us establish rugby as an institution in South Georgia.
My Project
For our team to effectively practice, we need six game-sized balls, one official game ball. We need to be able to push ourselves with conditioning by using the speed chute and every coach needs to have a first aid kit. Rugby is a tough sport so our players need to have very durable equipment. We plan to begin practicing in September to prepare for our Spring Season. It is important to start early because not many people know this game. Part of coaching is teaching the game to those new to the sport to help them gain a love of this game we call rugby.
While our boys and girls rugby teams have been very successful, we are in dire need of basic equipment.
The girls' team, against all odds, won a state championship last year and the boys' team made great progress over the course of the year. With your help, we can build a program that will be an anchor for rugby in South Georgia for years to come.
