My students need these items which will allow them to have choice for their personal reading and allow for students to have alternate ways to explore the world of reading.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My classroom consists of eighteen K-2 grade students who are ready to move and are excited about learning this year. I am in a Title I school with 85% free and reduced lunch. I am in a high poverty area where students come to school with all different kinds of backgrounds and disabilities including Attention Deficit Disorder. Students need to have flexibility and some choice to move around and understand what 21st Century Learning looks like, meaning working collaboratively while understanding how to build relationships with one another.
My Project
Reading is an essential skill in life and reading intervention can be fundamental for many students to find success and be better able to achieve in academics.
The items I have requested will allow students to have a comfortable space that has alternate seating besides your basic desk/chair set, and an alternate variety of book selections.
With their new reading space and seating options, they will be encouraged to work together to solve problems and explore concepts together. I will not limit them to only the people sitting around them but the entire class will be able to explore 21st Century Learning skills together.
My hope is to form a cohesive group of students working together to become the best students they can be. I want to provide choices to allow for student success. I hope to start a story time, and even have the upper grade students to read a book to the group.I dream for it to be a organized and comfortable place where children feel safe and can escape in a book, and have a love for the world of Literature.
