My multilingual classroom consists of a diverse group of curious Pre-K students. Most of my students come from an economically disadvantaged background, and depend on school to have their needs met. One of these needs includes the food they eat, which is currently being provided by the district, along with a Chromebook per family so they can participate in distance learning.
Despite their socioeconomic background, my students are imaginative, creative and clever students that are eager to continue learning in these trying times of Covid-19.
With our school closure, I am currently relying on items that I have at home in order to provide their distance learning; however, I know this experience could be better and more exciting for my students if I had more up-to-date technology.
My students have diverse abilities and skills; therefore, it is critical for me to provide them with a variety of lessons that target their likes and queries. The technology that I have at home right now is very outdated, thus limiting my teaching options. I would like to have a Surface tablet that will allow me to provide differentiated learning opportunities from my home office.
Funding this project will allow me to create fun lessons for my students that they can enjoy from home.
I will be able to make videos of myself teaching them the skills that they need to learn in order to be successful when they get to kindergarten. Even though the lessons would not be taught in person, the fact that it would be me on the students' screens would make the lessons more personal, more meaningful, and more effective. Through the funding of this project, I will be able to go beyond the surface of just paper-pencil learning and create more interactive educational content that students can enjoy both during and after the pandemic is gone.
