My students need Kindles to access online resources and educational games.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students are a group of extraordinary little people. They have faced challenges that most of us couldn't even imagine, and they've done it with a smile. My school is labeled as a Title I school and benefits from local businesses as much as they can. However, the school and neighborhood still need much more TLC. Our parents do the best that they can, and our teachers work hard to bridge the performance gaps of our low-income students (nearly 85% of our student body population). We have various homeless families, families who need support on weekends just to have food, and many families who are still facing the aftermath of the devastation that Hurricane Harvey placed on their families, finances, and living conditions.
Despite these financial challenges, my students strive to succeed and reach for the stars each and every day!
They work hard, put their best foot forward, and yearn to learn more each day. My students make me proud, and I as their teacher would love the opportunity to give them the classroom environment that they deserve. My hope is that they see our classroom to be a safe haven where they are excited to return each day!
My students will use Kindles to read online materials related to our coursework. They will also be able to interact with educational games and have a chance to navigate a tablet. These students do not have a lot of experience with Internet researching, which will also be happening with these Kindles. I want them to experience the joys of technology while continuing their coursework.
Your donations will change my students current opportunities for meaningful engaged learning!
Most of them do not have access to technology resources of their own, and their interactions with technology are very limited. They love technology and giving them a chance to work with and manipulate Kindles will provide a learning opportunity that most of them do not often have. Currently, our school shares 2 iPad carts, which equates to 8 iPads per class once every other week. I would like to increase our use of technology for our 21st century learners. With your help, our classroom will be able to have access to technology every day. This will improve their technological confidence and provide additional learning experiences for every child!
