Help me give my students additional adapted books, instructional materials, Boom Cards, and personalized take-home books so I can focus my weekly instruction on their adapted curriculum content and their individualized education goals in engaging ways.
I am an elementary school librarian who teaches a weekly class to two classes of students (combined) who follow an adapted curriculum.
They are a dozen, dynamic learners who love learning through songs, books - regular and adapted, video clips, and using resources on devices.
One class serves K-2 students while the other serves grades 3-5. The students in these classes represent a wide range of academic, social, and communication abilities.
My Project
These dynamic learners follow a specific adapted curriculum with challenging topics that change each month. Topics include authority figures, ecosystems, maps and landforms, matter, energy, economics, people who have worked to bring about change - and more!
I try to integrate my lessons with their curriculum content, but it can be difficult to find materials that address the curriculum topics at an appropriate level for these learners and in engaging ways.
Songs and adapted books are at the core of my lessons. Personalized readers - take-home books in which their own name appears as part of the story - have been a big hit, too, and I would love to be able to send home more for student and family reading. Boom Cards have been a great resource not only to reinforce curriculum content but also as a vehicle for sharing and turn-taking, as a few iPads are shared among smaller groups within the class. I would like to purchase additional instructional materials, adapted books, Boom Cards, and take-home readers that correlate with their curriculum topics and allow the students to learn in a variety of engaging and hands-on ways.
