Beyond Monopoly - Socially Grouping for Students!!

Help me give my students the opportunity to have learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met by learning socially to work in groups during our SOAR time and our "Beyond Monopoly" club!

My Students

I teach at a middle school in Little Rock. This year, we implemented "SOAR" (Advisory) time to meet with a small group students for the purpose to monitor their grades (keep in weekly contact with their parents), build relationships, help with missing assignments, help with their social, and future-planning (high school and plans after high school).

We have incorporated clubs within our SOAR groups to meet once a week.

I have started a "Beyond Monopoly" for kids to use that club time to build relationships through playing board games by working in groups. This group of students are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new club of learners that are excited and ready to have this SOAR time! (SOAR: S-Safe & Orderly; O-Organized & Prepared; A-Accept Responsibility; R-Respectful of Self & Others)

My Project

With these new board games, my students in my SOAR class/"Beyond Monopoly" Clubs will be able to choose from a variety of games that will allow them to work together in groups to help them grow socially. It is important that students know how to work together for projects in high school (other students) and for their future careers (co-workers). In addition to teaching them about teamwork, patience, and how to win and lose gracefully, board games can benefit students' brains! We will also be able to use these games in regular classes!
