My students are all English language learners from war torn countries. They have been traumatized by what they have experienced in their home country, and come here fearful and hopeful.
Most of my students and their families are refugees who come to our community, to find peace, acceptance, safety and a better life.
We embrace their cultures, languages and aspirations as we encourage them to hold on to their heart language and culture and embrace their new world.
They are intelligent, resilient, determined and so much more. They are mostly multi-lingual and are learning to master the English Language. I am incredibly grateful that these precious children are my students.
My Project
I teach English as a second language to all elementary grade levels. Writing is always the last and hardest domain for second language learners to master. I am hoping to help my students to become better writers through these mentor text sets and better readers.
Writing is not easy to teach but I recently had a phenomenal training which I have already put in to practice and see great benefits.
They recommended using mentor texts, which when sold individually can be expensive and overwhelming. That is why I am requesting these grade appropriate mentor books about writing for each grade that I teach. Thank You very much for your consideration.
