My Students

My students come from diverse backgrounds. They include students that live in our diverse Venice neighborhood as well as students who are bussed in from many different neighborhoods in the greater Los Angeles area. Many of them spend as much as 2.5 hours traveling to and from school on the school bus. My students represent a wide variety of academic abilities and interests.

Our school is Title I, meaning that over 80% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch.

For my students, our classroom is a safe, clean place to spend their days. Many of them seek the safe space of the classroom before school, at recess, or after school. They depend on the classroom as a safe space and I strive to make it a place that is safe for learning, socializing, and growing.

My students are a very spirited group. They are eager to learn and engage, even during these difficult times.

My Project

My students are eager to learn and participate in remote learning despite the limitations of our technology. They love sharing their ideas and look forward to the human connection of our synchronous learning.

I work hard to keep my students engaged in learning and record their mathematical thinking so that everyone can understand and engage in other's ideas.

As a math teacher, writing math with a mouse has proven VERY difficult and had often interrupted the flow of our lessons. This iPad will help make the writing of math more smooth and allow us to maximize our time together. It will allow me to more easily record my students' ideas and write a variety of mathematical representations.
