The students in my classroom are very diverse. They each learn differently, come from different backgrounds, and need different supports in my classroom. But what my students all have in common is their love of learning and excitement for school.
I work hard to provide an environment in which all students will thrive.
This includes providing comfortable and flexible seating options. Flexible seating lets students feel empowered by having choices, improves physical health, encourages students to find a comfortable place to stay calm, focused and productive, and encourages children to share more and engage in more thoughtful discussions.
Organization and executive functioning is an essential part of a well-run classroom. Because of the flexible seating in our classroom, children are not able to store their materials in a desk. Housing their materials in separate cubbies increases transition times and decreases instructional time.
The rolling storage carts will make a huge difference in our class, allowing students more time to learn and less time transitioning.
Students will be able to store their notebooks and folders for each subject, books for independent reading, pencils, and art supplies in the cart.
Many times students will misplace materials because they have to move them from one place to another in the classroom. Having the carts will help students keep their materials close and well organized, thus increasing their learning and time on task. The carts will help my students be more successful in 5th grade and give them the practice for being more organized as they move into middle school and beyond. These important resources will also help them well into the future.
