My students need 12 headphones to become better listeners and readers who are working more effectively.

Harvey is not a friend of mine nor my classroom. My low income students are displaced because Harvey flooded our school with 3 to 4 feet of water. Our classroom was ready to start Friday before Harvey came to Houston. Until, as my students say "It got washed away.
My students were taken out of their low income houses and apartments by boats and military trucks to dry locations when Harvey attacked the community.
The school sits in the middle of this community and was a pillar of activity for all the students in the area. Being a teacher and working in this community for over 5 years, my feelings are that this is my extended family. I have had the joy to ¨loop¨ or follow my students from kindergarten to first grade. Having students for two years really makes you family, that is why it was so sad to see what my families and community lost. Our school and community are still in need of some basic needs. Each day we recall items lost because they were used at different times of the teaching year. Our community is strong and we pull together when those times come.
My classroom was granted some computers and software for reading, but the audio on the computers makes it a very noisy classroom. I cherish the noise because my First Graders are working with their program.
But, we need headphones with a microphone so my readers can hear their computers and work more efficiently.
This reading software allows for the students to record and listen to their own reading but as you can imagine, background noises make it hard for them to work correctly.
First grade reading is so very important to setting life long learners to be successful. Please help to make this their successful year!
