My Students
My school has an unique population of students. My students come from traditional and non-traditional home settings in a town that is suffering from a loss of our working mill. We have closed a school and merged into one building. These kids are mostly from farms, multi-family homes, and rural settings.
My school is full of little Mainers with big dreams and it's my job to get them started on the right path! My school is a professional community of life-long learners with a common goal: Teach Every Child.
My Project
My first graders, and some visiting kindergarten students, have a wide variety of interests. Which is always inspiring and motivating for them when you can supply them with books that peak that interest. Unfortunately, a lot of the books in my classroom are hand-me-downs from generations that these kids can't relate to.
Kids need books that support their interests, help them answer their questions and introduce them to different worlds.
Over the past 3 years of teaching, I have done my best to collect strong books for my instruction, now it is time for me to focus on my classroom library. I'm in a district that does the best they can, but buying new books for each classroom is not possible. I'm turning to our online community for help.
