We are a close-knit second grade classroom community of readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, and historians.
My students come from all over the world and have different needs as learners.
We live minutes away from our nation’s capital and take pride in our community, school, and classroom.
My students are clever thinkers and inquisitive learners. They accept challenges and celebrate mistakes as opportunities to grow. They are optimistic and flexible problem solvers who try, try, and try again. My students are full of energy and kindness. They work hard and deserve the best possible learning environment!
My Project
This year my second grade students have experienced increased independence, engagement, time on task, and strengthened communication skills by learning in an environment that promotes individual choice and preference in seating. Each and every day during each and every academic workshop, students are allowed to choose which learning space best meets his or her needs.
Hokki stools, balance balls, and tall stools have a proven track record of success in our classroom.
These seating options allow children to wobble discreetly while working, provide comfortable learning spaces for collaboration, and/or promote a change in scenery to keep student perspectives fresh with each passing academic block.
