Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class is a vibrant group of second graders, ages seven and eight, at a Title I school in East Palo Alto, CA. They are smart, talented, and excited to learn! We consider ourselves a school family and support each other every day to work hard, reach our goals, and learn from our mistakes. My goal is to provide my students with resources and materials that will spark their creativity and create a passion for learning.
My students live less than ten minutes away from some of the largest tech companies in the world and an Ivy League school; yet the high school graduation rate for their zip code is 50%.
I want to set my students up on a pathway to success and college for certain! I am committed to providing them with an equitable quality of education compared to that of what students receive in neighboring affluent school districts.
My Project
I am requesting books to help guide my reading and writing instruction. The curriculum used at my school is the units of study for reader's and writer's workshop by Lucy Calkins. It is an awesome curriculum that my students love.
The books that I am requesting will help to guide and plan my instruction during our small group and conferring time.
The reader's and writer's workshop books give strategies to work on with students at all different levels of proficiency. I am so excited to plan to meet the needs of all my students through the strategies offered in these books.
