This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a dedicated bunch of fourth-graders who believe that education is their way to better their lives. All of these students receive free breakfasts, lunches, and snacks. These children have a set "safe path" to walk on to get to and from school. They know that they will be out of harms’ way when they stay on this protected path. Imagine walking to school in that manner every day? Many of these kids have perfect attendance or are close to it. They know that an enriched education will help advance their futures.

My students are ambitious, focused survivors who persevere and are kind, empathetic, and hard-working.

They should be able to go anywhere in the world because they will have a great education, and not have to settle.

My Project

This city is known as the "Park City" yet so much of the surrounding school property is unplanted soil, rocks, and weeds. We did start a vegetable garden in one area.

From dwarf snapdragons to giant pink sunflowers, to basil leaves as large as lettuce leaves and a wonderful assortment between this project literally brings life to the school grounds.

This project will allow my students to plant a variety of vibrant and colorful flowers along with beneficial herbs. My class will learn so much about how to grow and maintain plant life and also reap the rewards of fresh herbs and bring cut flowers to their houses. This will allow the beautification to continue at home.

The flowers will help our local honeybee production and may even increase our native bird population,
