My Students
I teach math to about 100 exceptional, spirited 8th graders.
My students are all minority and economically disadvantaged but they have an insurmountable will to succeed.
They are hard-working and have a passion for learning math. They come to school every day ready to learn.
My students are from the historically underserves communities of Houston's Fifth Ward and Denver Harbor. These community are resilient in-spite of challenges that they face and the students are no different.
Despite often being overlooked and their schools being underfunded, these students work diligently and show up to school prepared to put in the work. As their teacher, it is my duty to advocate for anything that will bring joy or enrich the learning experience.
My Project
Studies have shown that incorporating flexible seating helps to bridge the gap between the classroom and home. It helps students increase their comfort in the classroom and engage in the work in a meaningful way. Giving students flexible seating will allow them to engage in math in a new and unique way.
I want my students to have ownership of the classroom and feel at ease in the space.
You can help me create that feeling by providing flexible seating. I'm requesting bean bags chairs, stools, pillows, bungee chairs , a futon and rugs to create a more homey feeling.
