In the new world of Covid 19 everything about school is very different. We are constantly washing hands, wearing masks, and sanitizing everything. This alone brings many challenges to learning. Things that once could be shared are no longer able to be shared. Routines are still different and the world that they new before has become different. Everyone is adjusting to the "new normal" of daily life.
My students face many adversities in their life and work constantly to overcome and exceed their own expectations of what they are capable of.
This is particularly challenging with COVID. They do not have access to many materials and other things necessary to learn. They can't control the circumstances of their life but they never give up and strive to challenge themselves.
We are a free breakfast and lunch school. We are located just outside of a joint military base. We serve a high number of students who have parents in the military. The students are so eager to become active learners and problems solvers. The social and emotional skills that are developed as well as the teamwork and leadership skills will forever mark their young lives.
My Project
How do you learn to play and interact with others without a screen? How do you learn social skills and fair play? Well you have board games that you can use at not only inside recess, but post Covid if we can start clubs again. These games will be shared with the other classes in the pod so we can work on cross grade level cooperation as well.
What happens when you get to go to recess up to -10 degrees and it is -15 outside or colder, you have inside recess that's what!
This is why we need board games to beat the blues of not being able to go outside for recess.
Games like Jenga, Sorry, Monopoly, Uno, Trivial Pursuit, Battleship, Sequence, and Clue are all classic games everyone loves to play.
Rummikube, Diary of a Wimpy Kid 10 Second Challenges, Pay Day, and Life, Pictionary, Pictureka, and The Mine Craft Card Game are all new exciting games that the kids have never heard of. What a better way to spend inside recess then with a good game to play screen free.
