Help me give my students tennis balls for their chair legs, jingle bells, cowbells and a "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" music box to enhance their music sessions.
All my students have significant developmental disabilities including cognitive and physical disabilities. They range in age from 3-21 years of age.
Due to the severity of their disabilities, they attend a separate school for students with those types of delays.
Most of the students come from low-income families. My students' needs are considered intensive, and they struggle with many day-to-day tasks. However, despite their difficulties with many everyday tasks of daily living, they thoroughly enjoy music therapy sessions and often "shine" during the activities presented.
My Project
This project combines my needs for bells and balls for group music sessions.
Many of my students are very sensitive to noise and having tennis balls on the feet of the classroom chairs really makes the sound of moving them more tolerable.
We currently have tennis balls on the chairs but as time passes they dry-rot and fall off or crumble. It would great to have new tennis balls to replace them as they fall off or fall apart.
Wrist bells are a favorite music item of my students. They can be attached to a student's wrist or ankle and played with the tiniest bit of movement. Unfortunately, the Velcro on the bells I currently own no longer does the job. New wrist bells would be terrific for those student who don't have the fine motor skills to hold other types of bells.
Tiny cowbells? Need I say more? These just sound FUN! I may regret my choice after my 38th class of the week but my students are sure to love them!
At the beginning of the school year, I do a lot of baseball-themed songs. I thought it would be really neat for the students to have to hand-crank a small music box to sing along to "Take Me Out to the Ballgame".
Please help me to provide both necessary and new supplies for my students. They are truly the coolest bunch kids around and deserve the absolute best!
