Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I am a Gifted and Talented charter school teacher to some of South Carolina's best and brightest students! As exceptional as they are, I want to support their love for education and plant seeds of lifelong learning for when they leave my classroom.

My students are a combination of social butterflies, world star athletes in the making, and challenge conquerors!

One of those consistent challenges at this age is math. Math is not a popular subject to many, and I believe these critical years are the perfect time to work on changing that! I have seen tears of defeat turn into cries of joy as they master concepts they once deemed impossible to attain. Each student may come in on different levels, but my goal for them all is they reach success!

My Project

VersaTiles will allow students the opportunity to demonstrate their mathematics achievement by combining their knowledge of important math concepts and hands-on engagement. It will also add diversity and break the monotony of daily instruction.

Seeing the impact of VersaTiles used outside of the classroom fueled my desire to share it with my students this year to stir an excitement for learning.

VersaTiles can also serve as a great tool for pre- and post-assessments. All activities are aligned to our standards and the system is self-checking! It will allow me to provide enjoyable instruction to meet the specific needs of students in smaller group settings as needed.
