Help me give my students the curriculum needed to safely navigate the community. We would love to use the PCI Survival Signs materials to teach the kids how to be safe outside of the classroom.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
I teach at a high school in the Pittsburgh Public School District. My classroom is an autism support room where we focus heavily on Community Based Instruction (learning outside of the classroom in the community).
My goal is to teach each of my students how to safely navigate the community.
We walk through the community, visit museums, stores and restaurants. We also use public transportation to get around the city. I also have several students who go out to work during the week.
This curriculum with help my students meet those goals that allow them to safely navigate the community.
