This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school is a Title I school in Louisiana. The majority of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Many of my students do not have the proper supplies like paper, pencils and binders. I often purchase supplies with my own money and give them to my students, which can be very expensive.
I see a lot of behavior issues that come from a lack of support at home.
When these kids are not prepared for the school day, they will act out. By ensuring they have the proper supplies, we can hopefully avoid behavior issues.
My Project
Students who are prepared for class with the proper supplies, like paper and pencils, will feel confident. Sometimes not having a pencil can lead to a more serious behavior issue. I often purchase pencils and paper for my classroom like I would for my own children. If I can provide a child with paper and pencils, I could help them have a successful school day!! I have had students who are panicking because they don't have a pencil. I would like to be able to ease at least that one concern so they can focus on their work and not about simple school supplies.
