Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school emphasizes the respect of self and others. This encompasses discipline and high expectations as well as activism and compassion. The kids know they will be Agents of Change and follow our school motto, "Be the change you want to see in the world." - Mahatma Ghandi
We are classified as a "highest poverty" school and the kids at our school are brilliant.
They deserve excellent educational resources. Although my kids may lack financial resources, they have an incredible work ethic and desire to learn. We are a full Title I school, a vast majority of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunches.
Our students may lack the material privileges that other American children are fortunate to have, but they certainly make up for it with talent, fortitude, and sheer intelligence. We live in a world where our youth are simply not provided with enough quality resources to shine; your donation will make the dream of a bright future come true.
My Project
The safety and well being of all of my students has always been my number one focus each year. Unfortunately, during this week's earthquakes I have realized that my classroom does not have the items necessary for a catastrophic earthquake. Our district only allows for water and basic first aid supplies in the event of a major earthquake. Experts have cautioned that California is due for a major earthquake, and we should be prepared with food for at least 72 hours.
Being proactive instead of reactive is the key to students' safety.
The rolling backpack is accessible enough that even my students can roll it out if I am unable to. The removable pouches make it easier to reach for certain items. This backpack will not only be filled with games to keep students occupied and medical supplies, but with other necessary supplies such as an emergency radio, whistle for communication, hand-held flashlight that requires no batteries, class set of lightsticks and respirator masks with valve, filtered water bottle, hand sanitizer, facial tissue, and freeze-dried strawberries and ice cream.
Students worry. Parents worry. Just knowing that these items are readily available will set my students' and their parents' minds at ease. Thank you in advance for helping my students.
