This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember the first day of school when you had all your supplies? Do you remember the tenth day of school when you already lost some of the supplies? Or the 100th day of school when you didn't have any supplies? Or can you relate to the students who come to school without supplies from day 1?
In the 2010-2011 school year I will be teaching sixth grade World Cultures in a "needy" middle school.
"Needy" meaning we have many students on free and reduced lunches, many students who have not passed state tests in reading and math and needy and many students in need of help in having the supplies they need to be successful in school.
My Project
It has been my experience for many years that some students won't have supplies like colored pencils, scissors or glue ever this year and some students will have supplies but as the year goes on the supplies get used up but never replaced. When needed I would like to give students pencils, notebook paper, colored pencils, scissors or glue sticks. In addition, we go through a box of tissues in about two weeks. I would like to provide enough tissues and hand sanitizer to get us through the majority of the year. By giving all students the basic tools to be successful in school I believe it takes some of the stress away from students, takes the excuses away not to do the work and allows all of them to participate in learning.
Please help the students who forget, lose or cannot afford to have the basic school supplies.
These supplies (pencils, paper, scissors, glue sticks, colored pencils, tissue and hand sanitizer) help students be prepared to be successful in school.
