This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My student body consists of approximately 150 students from low socioeconomic backgrounds. The racial makeup of my students is 95% African-American. A majority of my students come from homes where parents do not have a college education.
It is the objective of the school to ensure that the students are on the path to being college and career ready by the time they leave middle school.
However, this is quite difficult because many of the students are reading two to three grade levels below the national average. In order to create greater opportunities for success, we strive to create challenging and engaging lessons, which students find exciting.
My Project
Recently we have been taking our students outside so that they can run around and play as a reward for good behavior. Students are allowed to choose from a variety of activities. They have greatly appreciated this time and are really enjoying themselves. However, the weather is currently changing, and we want to make sure that the students are warm.
Each student will be given a pair of warm socks to ensure that their feet are warm while they are playing.
If students feel warm and comfortable, they are more likely to continue playing. Also, we will be able to keep the children physically active all year round.
