Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My new classroom consists of 25 very active and rambunctious kindergartners that are beginning to learn what it means to be in school for a huge chunk of the day (full day kindergarten, not am and pm schedule). My students live in a high poverty community and school is their safe place to come and be themselves. Our school is a Title I school that has 90% of our students receiving free or reduced cost lunch. Most of my students come from a Spanish speaking home and are now thrust into a classroom where they are learning how to do everything in English.
Despite the language difference, these kids are ready to build relationships, social emotional skills, and absorb as much learning as they can in these 180 days.
These students aren't just looking to me to learn their abc's and their 123's. They are relying on me to teach them how to make friends and to show them how to manage the many emotions they go through on a daily basis. My goal is to make these sweet little kids better all around people before they move on to first grade.
My Project
It's sad to say, but I am not supplied with the necessary technology that will make distance learning easy for me and my students. The devices you are giving me will help me to create distance learning materials more easily and comfortably.
My students will be using their iPads to navigate through distance learning, so I should have an iPad to help model everything for them and create activities that will work on their iPad.
Having this iPad will help me to create activities and resources that are compatible with their iPad, and it will help me to project items during our zoom calls more easily.
