My Students
I am a school counselor in Chicago. I work primarily with 6th - 8th grade girls. My students are products of low-economic environments where most come from single-parent households such as myself. A lot of my students come to school with poor hygiene due to limited resources to purchase such toiletry items.
My students are talented, brilliant, funny, thoughtful and creative.
They possess resilience and a "push through" attitude despite their situations and the things they experience outside of the school building. Most of my students are passionate about their education as they know that education is the key to success.
My Project
All female students want to feel clean, confident and fresh as they journey towards academic success. Many of the middle school students at my school come from low socio-economical communities where 90% of the households are single parent mothers of multiple children. A lot of the mothers receive government assistance or work jobs where they are barely making ends meet.
I wanted to start this project because I have experienced many of my female middle school students coming to school with body odors.
Many have started their menstrual cycles and do not have the necessary toiletries to properly care for their hygiene.
With the generous donations from the donors, my middle school girls will be able to attend school with the feminine necessities they need to feel confident, clean and fresh as they navigate the day of educational learning.
