This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are a very energetic fun bunch of kids. They often struggle though with making connections to what they are learning to their life... My school is in a high poverty area with a lot of students receiving free or reduced lunch. While we have a library many times the books are not new or the students have read them before with other teachers.
Reading is something that should always keep you engaged and interested.
I am looking for the opportunity to provide this for my students.
My Project
These books will allow my students and I to come together and complete book studies throughout the year. We will be able to discuss multiple different topics and students will be able to learn different skills and strategies when reading. With your donation I will be able to receive many different small groups sets of novels that will grasp my students attention and allow us to have engaging and meaningful discussion. Students will be able to build skills needed to work with peers. They will also learn through practice how to have appropriate and meaningful book talks. They will eventually be able to hold them without teacher guidance.
